Immune System Boosting Tips

Eat the Following:

Yogurt – for pro biotics

Oats and Barley – for antimocrobial and antoxidant activity.  Oatmeal also has the great benefit of lowering your LDL cholesterol.  This is great for your entire cardio vascular system and leads to better blood flow and a better immune sytem!

Vitamin C – Found in many fruits and vegetables.  Some of the highest natural sources of vitamin C are

Garlic – for allicin which helps with bacteria and infections

Shellfish – for Selenium and omega-3 fatty acids

Green Tea or Black Tea – L-theanine

Zinc – Deficiency weakens immune system. Pumpkin seeds are a great natural source of zinc.

Sweet Potatoes – For Vitamin A which gives you healthy skin a major factor of immunity.  Beta-carotene as well

Mushrooms – Reishi, Shiitake, and Maitake are some of the best for immunnity. 0.25 to 1 ounce of mushrooms a few times a day.

Oregano Oil – Helps your body remove harmful bacteria.  Take 200 milligrams three time a day.

Cruciferous Vegetables – Boost the ability of the liver to remove toxins from your body.  Eat more kale, broccoli, chard, and cabbage

Spirulina – This superfood is actually an algae and packs a powerful nutritional punch.

Avacados – Avacados have quite a few antioxidants, healthy fats, and amino acids that help balance our hormones and adrenal glands which combined helps strengthen our immune system.

Biking, swimming, jumping rope, and the list goes on.  Any activity where you are continuously moving will help your activate your lymphatic system which relies on gravity to keep fluid being flushed through it rather than a circulatory system.

Don’t Smoke and Don’t Second Hand Smoke – Both lower your immune system

Take Less Antibiotics – Only use them when you need them

Laugh More – Watch a comedy, surf Youtube, listen to stand-up.  Call up a friend who makes you laugh a lot. Laughing releases those natural endorphins that make you feel great and these lower strss hormones.  This combination boosts your immunity.

Meditation, Prayer, or Relaxation – Taking time to quiet your mind however you may choose to do so can reduce the stress hormone cortisol.  Why is lowering Cortisol a good thing?  Cortisol actually suppresses your immune system. Of course cortisol has it’s purposes, it can help us run faster or fight harder in fight or flight type of stressful situation, but when it accumulates from everyday low grade stress it can really take a toll on our immune system.
